How We’re Supporting the NHS Net Zero Target
20th August, 2025
The NHS has committed to an ambitious net zero target:
- By 2040 for direct emissions (buildings, fleet, etc.)
- By 2045 for supply chain emissions (including products and services provided by companies like ours)
As a trusted healthcare supplier, we recognise the vital role we play in helping the NHS achieve this goal. Here’s how we’re making a difference:
- Sustainable Products for Healthcare Environments
- We prioritise sourcing from FSC-certified suppliers and manufacturers with ISO 14001 accreditation.
- Many of our healthcare products include recycled or recyclable materials, reducing environmental impact.
- We are actively reviewing our product portfolio to align with NHS Green Plan Guidance (2025).
- Reducing Supply Chain Emissions
- Local Sourcing: Over 90% of our healthcare products are procured from UK-based suppliers to minimise transport emissions.
- Carbon Reduction Plans: All major suppliers are required to demonstrate their own sustainability commitments.
- Efficient Logistics: We are transitioning our delivery fleet to hybrid and electric vehicles by 2030.
- Supporting Circular Economy in Healthcare
- We operate a take-back and reuse scheme for certain furniture and equipment, ensuring products are recycled or refurbished instead of going to landfill.
- We work with charities to donate surplus items to healthcare and community projects.
- Aligning with NHS Green Plan Guidance
The NHS Green Plan identifies six key priority areas, including estates, travel, medicines, and supply chains. Our work supports these priorities by:
- Providing low-carbon furniture and consumables.
- Offering eco-friendly office and healthcare supplies that reduce waste.
- Actively reducing packaging by moving to recyclable and compostable alternatives.
- Transparent Reporting
- We measure and publish progress annually against our Net Zero by 2033 target.
- This includes tracking Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, with specific actions dedicated to healthcare-related supply.
In Summary
By aligning our operations and supply chains with the NHS Net Zero strategy, we’re not only reducing our own footprint but also helping the NHS achieve its 2040/2045 commitments.
