What is Menopause?

A Menopause is something that happens to a woman naturally between the ages of around 45 to 55 years old. It is where your period will stop due to lower hormone levels. In some cases, it can happen earlier.

What is Andropause?

With Menopause which effects only women, there is Andropause which affects Men.

Andropause is something that happens when there is a decrease with the sexual satisfaction or a decline with the general well-being due to lower testosterone levels. There is no fixed age for Andropause, but I can start to occur from the ages of 30. Another thing, Andropause doesn’t affect all men like Menopause does with women.

Treatments for the Menopause:

Not all women need treatment with the Menopause but the women who seem to have severe symptoms can receive some types of treatments. One treatment is a hormone replacement therapy which includes tablets, skin patches, gels and implants which help to relieve the menopausal symptoms as it replaces oestrogen. Another treatment is different types of vaginal oestrogen cream, lubricants, moisturisers to help the vaginal dryness which some ladies will seem to have. Cognitive behavioural therapy is the third treatment which can be given which is a talking therapy to help with the anxiety. Lastly, eating healthy can be a suggestion to the lifestyle change as it can benefit some of the menopausal symptoms.

Treatments for Andropause:

Unlike Menopause which have multiple treatments which can be offered, with the Andropause, only comes one treatment which is a testosterone replacement to correct the hormone deficiency. This can be given as a gel or injection. However, there are also some natural ways to try reverse Andropause which Is to exercise regularly, eat healthy, reduce alcohol consumption and consume Zinc or Vitamin D.

Side effects of Andropause and the Menopause:

Like every treatment there are always side effects. The side effects for Menopause treatment can be headaches, breast pain/tenderness, vaginal bleeding/spotting, nausea, depression, leg cramps, itching and diarrhoea.  

Side effects for the Andropause treatment can be a decrease in energy and muscle strength, decreased libido, mood changed and cognitive function.
