Version: Sustainability Policy v2.0

  1. Introduction

At Niche Healthcare and Niche Office Solutions, we recognise our responsibility to operate in a way that supports environmental protection, responsible procurement, carbon reduction and long-term sustainability.

As suppliers to healthcare, public sector, education, office and commercial customers, we understand that sustainability is no longer just a business preference. It is an important part of procurement, supply chain management, NHS net zero targets and responsible business practice.

This policy explains how we are working to reduce our environmental impact, improve supplier engagement, support sustainable procurement and align our activities with developing NHS and public sector sustainability expectations.

  1. Our Sustainability Commitment

Niche Healthcare and Niche Office Solutions are committed to making practical, measurable and realistic improvements across our business operations and supply chain.

Our sustainability commitments include:

We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing process and that meaningful progress requires continuous improvement, supplier engagement and transparent reporting.

  1. Sustainability Progress and Current Market Pressures

Niche Healthcare and Niche Office Solutions recognise that sustainability must be approached realistically and responsibly, particularly within the current global trading environment.

War, international supply chain disruption, increased fuel costs, rising energy prices, material shortages and transport pressures continue to affect manufacturers, distributors, healthcare suppliers and public sector buyers.

These pressures make sustainable procurement more important, not less. Customers need suppliers who can balance cost, availability, quality, compliance and environmental responsibility.

Our approach is to take practical and measurable steps that reduce environmental impact where possible, while continuing to provide reliable products, responsible sourcing and responsive service.

  1. Alignment with NHS Net Zero and Sustainable Procurement

Niche Healthcare recognises that the NHS is continuing to lead significant progress towards becoming a net zero health system. NHS England has reported that direct NHS emissions have reduced substantially since 1990, supported by national investment, local Green Plans, sustainable procurement requirements and continued action across energy, transport, estates and supply chains.

Recent NHS sustainability developments include investment in solar panels and battery storage across NHS sites, the trialling of zero-emission ambulances and response vehicles, the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and the continued requirement for NHS procurement to include net zero and social value considerations.

As a healthcare supplier, we understand that NHS Trusts, Integrated Care Boards and procurement teams are increasingly expected to consider environmental impact, carbon reduction, responsible sourcing and supplier sustainability performance when making purchasing decisions.

Niche Healthcare aims to support this direction by:

We recognise that the NHS remains committed to reaching net zero by 2040 for the emissions it controls directly and by 2045 for the wider emissions it can influence through the goods and services it buys. As part of this wider supply chain, we are committed to making practical improvements that support healthcare customers, public sector procurement requirements and the transition to a lower-carbon economy.

For healthcare products, sustainability must always be balanced with patient safety, infection control, regulatory compliance, clinical suitability and product performance. Where sustainable materials, reduced packaging or lower-carbon alternatives are available, we will review them carefully while ensuring that quality, safety and suitability remain the priority.

  1. Sustainable Materials and Product Choices

We are actively reviewing product materials, packaging formats and supplier options to identify opportunities for improved sustainability.

This includes exploring:

Within Niche Healthcare, this may include reviewing medical-grade materials, packaging waste, product lifecycle information and supplier documentation.

Within Niche Office Solutions, this includes supporting customers with workplace products that offer durability, reusability, energy efficiency or reduced waste where available.

We understand that not every product currently has full environmental data available, particularly where products are manufactured through complex global supply chains. Where data is not yet available, we will avoid making unsupported claims and will continue working with suppliers to improve transparency over time.

  1. Supplier Engagement and Responsible Sourcing

A significant part of our environmental impact sits within our supply chain. We are therefore working to improve supplier engagement around sustainability.

Our supplier engagement priorities include:

We recognise that this is a developing area, especially for SMEs and specialist product suppliers. Our commitment is to keep improving the quality of information we collect and provide.

  1. Logistics, Fuel Costs and Carbon Reduction

Rising fuel costs and international transport disruption have highlighted the importance of efficient logistics.

We are reviewing how products are sourced, packed, shipped and delivered to reduce avoidable environmental impact where practical.

This includes considering:

Where urgent healthcare supply is required, speed and patient-care needs may remain the priority. However, we will continue to look for practical ways to reduce avoidable transport emissions without compromising service.

  1. Waste Reduction and Packaging

We aim to reduce unnecessary waste across our business operations and supply chain.

Our waste and packaging commitments include:

We recognise that some healthcare products require protective or sterile packaging for safety and compliance reasons. In these cases, patient safety and product integrity remain the priority.

  1. Energy Efficiency and Internal Operations

We are reviewing our internal operations to identify opportunities for improved energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

This includes:

As our business grows, we will continue to review how our day-to-day operations can support our sustainability aims.

  1. Carbon Reduction Roadmap

Our Carbon Reduction Roadmap sets out our plan for improving emissions data, reducing environmental impact and supporting the transition to a lower-carbon economy.

Our roadmap focuses on:

This roadmap will continue to develop as our data, supplier engagement and reporting processes improve.

  1. Transparency, Reporting and Continuous Improvement

We are committed to being transparent about our sustainability progress.

We recognise that some areas of carbon and Scope 3 reporting are still developing, particularly around purchased goods, supplier emissions, product-level carbon data, waste, transport and end-of-life treatment.

Our positive steps include:

We will avoid unsupported claims such as “carbon neutral” or “fully sustainable” unless they can be properly evidenced.

  1. Responsibilities

Responsibility for this Sustainability Policy sits with the management team of Niche Healthcare and Niche Office Solutions.

All staff involved in sales, procurement, sourcing, supplier communication, customer service, marketing and tender support are expected to consider sustainability where relevant to their role.

This includes considering:

  1. Policy Review

This Sustainability Policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains relevant to our operations, customer expectations, NHS sustainability requirements and public sector procurement standards.

The policy may be updated to reflect:

Our Actions & Commitments

Sustainable Logistics – DHL GoGreen

All export sales this year to Qatar, USA, Romania, Spain, UAE, South America, Honduras, Saudi Arabia, Southern Ireland, and China have been fulfilled through DHL GoGreen, helping to reduce CO₂ emissions associated with global shipping.
This partnership reflects our commitment to carbon-neutral logistics and responsible international trade.

Circular Packaging & Re-use

We proudly reuse packaging materials—especially the protective paper that accompanies many of our Amazon orders—to minimise waste.
By reusing existing materials instead of sourcing new ones, we reduce our waste output and support a more circular economy within our operations.

Sustainable Product Development

Our main baby product line is being developed using BPA-free, medical-grade materials, ensuring products that are safe for both families and the planet.
We are actively exploring new materials that align with NHS sustainability standards and upcoming UK health sector green procurement guidance.

Ethical & Certified Supply Chain

We are actively working towards ensuring that all our suppliers and manufacturing partners hold relevant international quality and safety certifications, such as CE marking, ISO standards, FDA approval, and SFDA certification.
This commitment helps guarantee that every product we provide meets the highest levels of safety, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
By collaborating only with responsible, accredited suppliers, we reinforce our values of transparency, trust, and environmental accountability across the entire supply chain.

Data improvement plan

Our ambition is to work

Longer term we will work with customers to understand the emissions associated with end of life treatment of products.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the carbon reduction targets detailed in the graph below.

These targets will be updated and recalculated as additional Scope 3 categories are added and data quality is improved (if changes create >5% variance in original calculations).

We project that carbon emissions will decrease to circa 7.6 tonnes by 2030.  This is a reduction of 21% from our baseline year, on average a 2.9% year on year reduction.

Our reduction path is plotted below:

Emissions Reduction Targets

Emissions Reduction Targets

The plan assumes some unavoidable emissions will remain by 2050, and these will be offset via a verified method of atmospheric CO2 removal.

We anticipate this path will change significantly over time as our options are evaluated and technology changes.

Completed Carbon Reduction Projects

Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives

  1. Office energy efficiency improvements, including metering to track performance
  2. Engage supply chain to understand and where possible support their carbon reduction plan development and delivery.
  3. By 2035 to have transitioned to electric powered heating and have on site solar renewables installed.
